i'm Saudi girl and i never understand this why on earth there is no public transportation in Saudi Arabia?
Saudi have money yet there is no buses in mega cities for simple public transportation especially for women
if they don't allow women to drive why they just don't go for alternative solutions like built buses stations around the city and bring buses ?!!
i know they are building now a metro in Riyadh FINALLY!! which is a fantastic thing but what about other cities ?
Saudis are really slow meeh....

i agree with you, as long as we don't drive car they must make public transportation for us, taxi eats money and these days taxi ask more money since Dammam road totally damaged and the Excavations every where.

u know there r many things in saudi arabia which r just unorganized.

same applies to public transportation, u see some old buses of yellow + orange + red color and also registration and other numbers written on them. they r known as the public transport. these buses started sometime in 70-80s as public transport were having some bus stops at that time but all vanished with time. now only workers/labors ride in them.

They have buses but they aren't safe then they have taxis but mostly adults of the family don't prefer taxis because of some stories they heard.

And yes, i agree with you when they don't allow us to drive they should at least provide us with a better public transportation system. And i couldn't agree more they are slow as a snail!

well I am in Khobar.. and you know.. those huge ugly red busses that go about.. they are public busses, and there is no law against women riding in them.. I actually saw an old woman riding in one, but she looked like she was really bad off.. Most women wont be caught dead riding in one of those.. and yes, like the person above says.. only the poorest of poor or the foreign laborers ride them.. so women wont be seen in them..

but ive seen women taking busses to other towns.. like there is a bus that goes to Hasa from here and also one that goes to Riyadh, one to Bahrain, and i see women in those every day..

but I know what you mean.. you want a more fluid bus system like they have in US cities that are clean and stop at every street corner and you can go anywhere.. Yes they need a system like that.

Actually there is public transportation in all major cities and between cities and towns. And now they are building railway system and Metro.

Here is the problem. Saudis love their cars and they feel that public transportation is not made for them but for the low income expatriates who work in KSA.

It is a cultural issue. It will be ages before it is changed.

The women must be controlled. There is no basis in Islam for many of the things you see in Saudi Arabia.

Gas is cheap, and taxis are cheap. It's basically the cheapest place in the world for car transportation.

Welcome to Saudi Arabia, land of oppressed, conservative government that makes no sense!
