Invited recently by the newly formed Pechter Middle East Polls to ask three questions of 1,000 representative Egyptians and 1,000 urban Saudis, the Middle East Forum focused on Iran and Israel, the countries that most polarize the region. The results are illuminating.

(Technical note: Respondents were interviewed face to face in Arabic, in their own homes using a structured questionnaire during November by a credible, private, local commercial company with a solid track record. The margin of error is ±3 percent.)

Iran: In today's Middle Eastern cold war, the Islamic Republic of Iran heads the revolutionary bloc, while the governments of Saudi Arabia and Egypt head the opposing status-quo bloc. How anxious are the Saudi and Egyptian populations of the Iranian nuclear weapons buildup? Pechter Polls asked two questions for MEF: "Assuming the Iranian government continues its nuclear enrichment program, would you support an Israeli strike against Iranian nuclear facilities?" and "How about an American strike against the Iranian nuclear facilities?"

No. Id rather have it Vice versa, but I don't think thats happening! The Israelis have oppressed the Palestinians for too long and must pay for all the children, women, and innocent men they deliberately ethnically cleansed millions over the last 60 years. And them "protests". Those are the foo foo iranians. If you actually go to Iran (which is a very big country) most of her citizens are for Ahmedinejad, not the oppostion. Teran is one city out of millions!. The reason why the protests look so "big" is because people are protesting other things (not having to do with the opposition) and the few opositionists make it look like they are all for them. Well I say to them toughen up because Ahmedinejad won, stop throwing a tantrum and trying to create another revolution and burning buildings and causin all sorts of chaos. It won't work with the government the PEOPLE elected.

For Arabs both are 2 evils and the true solution is a negotiated one, though Arabs always know Iran has a long history of backstabbing Arabs, we hope this will end forever and to have a just peace for everyone , the Israeli strike against Iraq's nuclear plant in the 80's did not affect how the war wit Iran went on. But it made iit clear to Arabs what the Israeli intentions were.



Also keep in mind a very important fact is that Iran built the main nuclear reactor in an Arab populated area (Abu Shehr) and any radioactivity leakage will reach Kuwait in a matter of hours and the entire gulf in a matter of 2 days. So neither is a real option , that is why GCC countries are not supporting this kind of talk.

Tehran will always be far away and safe from radioactivity, it is the Arab populations that will suffer from the implications of any strike /leakage / whatever.



And Tehran does not really need the plant for electric power , that is just a lie because they can get excess power transfer from neighboring countries without the nuclear risk or cost.

Iran's step towards developing nuclear military capacity is frightening as the diplomatic stance of Iran is summarized as undiscerning hostility towards everybody and anybody. It is believe that if they reach the stage of developing nuclear military capacity, they will have an offensive stance and more threatening attitude rather that dissuasive. Furthermore it will redefine their strategic position in the area and pose a threat to the whole region including Israel. The first threat is directed towards Saudi as the Iranian leadership has been stirring trouble at our doorstep too many times now to be ignored.

God forbid they get the nuclear power, things will get pretty tense around here. Let's hope the protests within Iran reach to the point where the power will go back to people with common sense.



Israel did this twice already : in irak and Syria. I believe they will do it a third time. do i support it, no! does it have to be done : probably.

No Iran would retaliate swift and hard. Iran said that if a single bullet from israel touches its soil it will immediately retaliate with enough rockets to completely cover all of Israel. But the Saudis would love it if Israel attacked. The saudis are just like the Israelis. no they are worst because they pretend to be good Muslims and yet they do everything for Israel and America. And here some idiots say that Iran is the bad one. Think about it brothers of Islam Iran is the only country who is standing up to Israel and the west. The damn saudi government takes orders from Israel and the US. Also look at what Saudis are doing now. killing hundreds of civilians in Yemen. Just the other day one air raid killed 80 civilians in a shopping facility. I dont have anything against the saudi people but if they support their government then I do. Some day Iran will defeat the saudis.

I dont support any nuclear strike..war, invasion etc..

I do wish however that USA would stop supporting Israel and allow everyone around to develop fairly and equally and make it an even playing ground.. If one country has it, why not allow the others to have it also. otherwise all stop and get rid of it.. You cannot allow one country to have nuclear weapons and say another cannot, thats just stupid..
